Will enjoys a busy portfolio career, covering projects across lighting design, live streaming, building conversion and theatre work.

This page is dedicated to introducing some of those projects, and giving a better idea of the scope that has been a huge part of Will’s professional work.

Passmore Edwards Building Conversion

Will led the renovation of this beautiful Grade II listed building, with just a small team of volunteers and key trades people. This former library and registry office was transformed into a new cafe, exhibition space, community meeting rooms and theatre. Find out all about it using the link below.

Mayoral Hustings Live Stream

In the lead up to the 2021 London Mayoral Election, Will and a small team worked with London Citizens to create and live stream a mayoral debate between the two key candidates - Shaun Bailey and Sadiq Khan. Will Produced and Directed the live stream, vision mixing and overseeing the studio and logistical set up.

Art & Soul Festival

Emerging from lockdown, Will and the Applecart team produced and curated a 10 day festival of workshops, music, comedy, cabaret, theatre, dance and walkabout. Attended by around 6,000 people, this was the perfect antidote to bring the community together after over a year of lockdowns - all for free.

Bobblehat

24 days, 24 doors, 24 events. Bobblehat hit the streets of Wimbledon in December 2017, bringing wonder and madness in the run up to Christmas. As a live advent calendar, each day a new door opened and a new surprise was waiting. Will was executive producer, working with an extremely small team on a very tight budget.

Live Streaming Theatre Conversion

As the UK went into lockdown, Will and two friends tackled the daunting tasks of turning a theatre into a dedicated live streaming studio. The theatre eventually saw over 40 shows broadcast to thousands of people worldwide, from a small community centre in East London.

Green Street Celebration

Early 2022 with the UK still reeling from Covid lockdowns, Will Produced and Event Managed a festival for the London Borough of Newham. This was delivered whilst Storm Eunice caused havoc with plans, and across a demanding site encompassing a busy market and high street.

Christmas on Green Street

Across December 2021, at the height of Omicron, Will and the team from Applecart delivered a series of outdoor events in Queen’s Market on Green Street. Installing festive lighting and music and curating a programme of performances, events and workshops, the Applecart team brought life to the market to encourage footfall.

Beckton Globe Theatre Design

Will and a small team from Applecart Arts designed a multifunctional theatre space for the Beckton Globe Library Rotunda. This complex space needed acoustic treatment and the addition of theatrical facilities that could be used by everyone from theatre companies to day-to-day users.

Youth Orchestras

Will has worked with a number of youth orchestras, across schools and other music foundations. Notable projects include producing and project managing a concert with over 500 performers at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, and on multiple occasions designing lighting for the London School’s Symphony Orchestra.

Royal Ballet School

As a Lighting Designer, Will worked with the Royal Ballet School on multiple projects across 2019. This included designing for choreographic competitions, final showcases to agents and industry and more.

National Youth Theatre

Will worked for many years with National Youth Theatre, as a Lighting Designer, Technical Tutor, Company Manager and CSM. Projects included the Astronaut’s Wives Club at Latitude Festival, 60th Anniversary Celebration and various REP shows in the West End, and numerous fundraisers everywhere from the site of the Hatton Gardens security deposit box heist to Buckingham Palace.

Immersive & Site Specific

Will’s work has regularly included creating performances in weird and wonderful places. He’s created experiences in disused air raid shelters, museums as part of book launches, audio installations in a hotel, and whole festivals creating a new event in a new place each day.

Outdoor Events & Festivals

Over years of working with multiple different organisations, will has worked on numerous events and festivals both big and small. He’s been part of the team planning and running a festival site, and visiting with shows to festivals big and small.

Education Work

Will has worked with countless schools and colleges over the years. Work has included everything from technical tutoring for GCSE and A-Level drama exams to creating incredible lighting designs for school productions. He has a strong history in mentoring and teaching technical theatre.

Barbican Concert Hall & LSSO

The London School’s Symphony Orchestra invited Will to lighting design their concerts over several years - particularly those events that collaborated with other performative elements. Will lit dance, opera and concerts with narration with the LSSO, where his score reading abilities really helped!

Reigate Grammar School

For the last six years, Will has been invited to lighting design shows for Reigate Grammar School. The school produces ambitious shows, and Will has been thrilled to work on everything from Guys and Dolls, Macbeth, Treasure Island, live streamed celebrations and Anything Goes.

St Paul’s Cathedral

Over the last nine years, Will has been invited back to St Paul’s Cathedral to play a crucial role in their yearly Easter concert and service. Managing the orchestra across the day, Will has put years of expertise into ensuring the smooth running of the day.

Workshops & Teaching

Will has taught lighting, sound, stage management and more for years to educational establishments and professionals alike. Will strongly believes that everyone should have a base of technical knowledge, and that it’s not as inaccessible as one might think.
